How do I place and move dice?

Drag a die onto the board, or tap a die in the tray and then tap a cell. Tap a placed die to send it back. While you hold a die, nearby empty cells stand out as places to connect it; you can still place it anywhere. During a drag, a preview shows the word the move would make and its points.

Can I undo a move or mix up my letters?

Undo below the tray takes back your last move. Shuffle tray rearranges only the dice waiting in the tray. To clear the whole board, open the ••• menu and choose Restart. On the Daily Roll, the same letters return and the clock keeps running.

How does Hard Mode work?

Turn Hard Mode on in Settings and scored words lock their dice in place. Undo stops at the last lock. Turning Hard Mode off or restarting releases the dice, but a run that releases existing locks counts as a regular solve.

How does the Daily Roll work?

At midnight UTC, one seeded roll of twelve letter dice goes out to the whole world: every player gets the exact same puzzle. Connect all twelve tiles into a single crossword to complete the day.

How do streaks work?

Complete the Daily Roll to extend your streak by one. Miss a day and the streak breaks, unless a shield covers it. Play seven days running and you earn a shield; you can hold two at most, and one shield covers one missed day. The next solve after the miss spends it on its own, and the results sheet says so. Miss two days in a row and the streak goes. Free Play games are unlimited and don't affect your streak.

How does the leaderboard work?

Finish the Daily Roll, pick a name, and your board joins the day's global ranking; no account, ever. Boards rank by score, with solve time only breaking ties, and a 30-day board adds up the month. Every submitted board is replayed and re-scored on the server. You can opt out, change your name, or remove every score you've posted from Settings.

What are badges?

Twenty-three feats, in four kinds: what one board can be, never missing a day, Daily Rolls finished whenever they fell, and one for the first finished Daily Roll you share. Once earned, they're yours for good. The Clean Sweep asks for a finished Daily Roll with every word at least four letters long, so no three-letter filler. It’s Good rewards an upright goalpost-shaped board with the ball between the posts. Tap any badge in the app to see it full size and what it asks of you.

Which words count?

Wordsicle checks your words against a built-in dictionary of over 170,000 English words. Words need at least three letters. Every horizontal or vertical run of touching tiles must be a valid word; a two-letter run does not count. Connect all twelve dice into one crossword to finish.

How do I add the widget?

Press and hold your Home Screen, tap the + button, search for Wordsicle, and pick a size. The widget shows your streak and whether today's roll is still waiting, and once you've solved it, the board you built.

Where is my data stored?

Your boards, scores, streak and badges live on your device. If you join the daily leaderboard, your name, scores and finished boards also go to the leaderboard server under a random ID the app makes up; the privacy policy has the full list. Deleting the app no longer deletes your history: on iPhone it's mirrored to your iCloud, on Android to Android Backup, so a reinstall gets it back. And if you were on the leaderboard, the board can hand your scores back too.
